The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is proud to present a free “Community Workshop: Learn to step with Step Afrika!” on Tuesday, January 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Victory Black Box Theater, in the L.A. Lee YMCA/Mizell Community Center, 1409 NW 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale.
Step Afrika!, the world’s first professional dance company dedicated to the tradition of stepping and one of the top 10 African American dance companies in the U.S., leads this free workshop, open to all ages and skill levels, to introduce participants to the art form of stepping, a dance form created by African American fraternities and sororities in the early 1900s. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, like tennis shoes, and come prepared to use their body as an instrument.
