“Rights” is a new play written by local playwright Bruce Karp, who presents a compelling story in three scenes titled “Life,” “Liberty” and “The Pursuit of Happiness,” issues of abortion rights, gays in the military and same-sex marriage are navigated by Holly Shay and Brendan Walker, the son who teenager Holly gave up for adoption. When Brendan, as an adult, unexpectedly reunites with his mother, they discover, together, that a family is what you make of it, and that some hard-fought rights are not assured.
