United Way of Broward County’s Commission on Behavioral Health & Drug Prevention’s Weston Alliance for Youth (WAY) family-friendly event “Navigating Through our New Virtual World (Do’s and Don’ts)” taking place on Wednesday, November 4.
· This virtual-panel discussion will discuss the effects of screen time, trauma, anxiety, depression, how to deal with different views regarding the pandemic, and how to nourish the brain/body/spirit. The panelists will also provide tips on how to be mindful and avoid/overcome unhealthy coping mechanisms such as overeating and/or alcohol or other substance use.
· Guest Speakers:
o Dr. Edan M Alcalay, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist who specializes in treating children and adolescents who are suffering from anxiety, mood disorders, suicide, and crisis management.
o Yaneth Beltran RD, LDN is a Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist who has 20 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of clients with diverse nutritional needs.
o Dr. Michelle Stoyell-Conti, Psy.D. is a trilingual licensed psychologist specializing in treating individuals, groups, and couples. Her clinical experience includes obsessive compulsive disorder and other anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, self-esteem, substance use, and relationship issues.
o Rick Wolfer, M.Ed. has achieved a rich and varied career spanning 20 years that has included roles as Assistant Principal, Teacher, and Baseball Coach for schools within Broward County.
· The guest speakers will provide valuable information and factual and honest responses to your questions. There will also be entertainment and a raffle for prizes.
· Plus, participants will learn about Creative During COVID: Holiday Edition, an opportunity for youth to share their feelings, their experiences, and their dreams.
