At once wildly amusing and morally contemplative, Tartuffe is a comedy of virtue and hypocrisy. Set in a mansion in seventeenth-century France, the title character Tartuffe has hoodwinked the wealthy homeowner, Orgon, into believing his every word and even regarding him as saint-like. Orgon’s family recognizes Tartuffe’s true hypocritical and manipulating manner, and hilarity ensues as they attempt to convince Orgon otherwise.
