TWO-DAY GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS ART EXHIBIT AND FUNDRAISER COMES TO DISTRICT 13 WITH SPECIAL APPEARANCE BY MICHAEL FRANTI

This two-day awareness festival entitled “Flower in the Gun” is comprised of an art exhibit and fundraiser benefiting Ban Assault Weapons Now (BAWN).

WHAT:The art exhibit & fundraiser begins with the Opening Reception of “First Awakenings” featuring the work of visual and philanthropic artist Adam Dolle and an artDISCOURSE onHow artists can provide their communities with joy, interaction, and inspiration, as well as give thoughtful critique to our political, economic and social systems with Laura Marsh, Curator of Exhibitions, Art & Culture Center / Hollywood. The following day will feature a gun violence awareness art exhibit, featuring a spoken word performance by a Stoneman Douglas student and a special guest appearance by Michael Franti. All proceeds from ticket sales and art will be donated to (BAWN).

WHY:Adam Dolle Studio is a personal synthesis of Adam’s education, careers, and experiences over the last 55 years. His current work is a result of this diverse history and uncharted approach to life as well as his desire to start a new chapter as a reflection of his past and the urgency he feels to do something impactful for the future. Each piece challenges the viewer to think about the effects of gun violence on the individual and social psyche.

WHEN:First Awakenings: Sunday, April 14th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm // Cost: FREE // VOLUNTARY DONATIONS TO SUPPORT BAWN ACCEPTED

Fundraiser: Monday April 15th from 6:30pm am to 8:30pm // Cost: $1000 (sponsor) // $500 (host) // $100 (attendee)

BAWN, a Floridapolitical committee primarily comprised of family members of victims of mass shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and Pulse, is actively working towards a state constitutional amendment to ban assault weapons in Florida.
