Alternative Spring Break 2023!
- Fun community service opportunities, and once in a lifetime experiences available in collaboration with United Way of Broward County’s Commission on Behavioral Health & Drug Prevention’s Broward Youth Coalition, Broward Behavioral Health Coalition and The Florida Department of Children and Families.
- The events and activities are for Broward County students in grades 6 thru 12.
- Community service hours are available during select events.

Gardening and BBQ Day with Law Enforcement Officers
Date: Monday, March 20
Time: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Location: Gulfstream Academy of Hallandale Beach K-8, 1000 SW 3rd St, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009
Details: Spend the day with local law enforcement officers for a gardening beautification project. This event is for Broward County students in grades 6-12 and community service hours are available. Lunch will be provided and all participants will receive a free pair of sunglasses. Pre-registration is required.
Broward Youth Coalition Student Led Day of Fun
Date: Tuesday, March 21
Time: 12 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Location: Fort Lauderdale Main Library – 100 S Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301
Details: Enjoy a day full of mindfulness activities, youth sessions on substance use prevention, mental health awareness, an interactive storytelling workshop AND Zumba dancing! This event is for Broward County students in grades 6-12 and community service hours are available. Lunch will be provided, and students will receive a free t-shirt and prizes throughout the day. Pre-registration is required.
Interactive Sociodrama Performance
Date: Wednesday, March 22
Time: 1 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Location: Nova Southeastern University, Mailman Hollywood Building – 3301 College Avenue, Davie, FL 33314
Details: This educational theater program will focus on three scenarios that examine peer pressure and its explanations and consequences. Specific topics will include shoplifting, vaping and substance use. The performance will begin at 1:30 p.m. and families are welcome (children must be ages 10 and older). Broward County students in grades 6-12 can receive community service hours. Pre-registration is required.
Mental Health and Yoga on the Farm
Date: Friday, March 24
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Location: The Lucky Horse Sanctuary – 4250 NW 43rd Street, Coconut Creek, FL 33073
Details: Enjoy painting, outdoor yoga and mindfulness activities with animals while connecting with other teens at Florida’s largest animal sanctuary! Participating students need to bring a beach towel and signed parent waiver. This event is for Broward County students in grades 6-12 and community service hours are available. The event is rain or shine and pre-registration is required.
