Broward County Libraries and the City of Hallandale Beach are partnering to present the latest free community event: The Afro-Caribbean Weekend Fest, #HBCaribbeanFest. The event celebrates Afro-Caribbean culture, cuisine, music and competitive, interactive storytelling. The Fest takes place at Broward County Library’s two Hallandale Beach branches.

The Afro-Caribbean Weekend Fest theme is “Island Spice” and the crowd will be treated to a powerful dose coming from authentic Caribbean food trucks, street vendors and powered by live entertainment. More “Island Spice” is served up as the theme of the storytelling segments that take place both days. Follow the Story Slam on Facebook or visit Eventbrite.

On Friday, June 15th from 6-8PM at the Foster Park Community Micro-Library, festival goers will experience a healthy food demo by Flipany, live music and a dynamic, interactive storytelling journey with Lucrece Louisdhon-Louinis.

On the festival’s second day on Saturday, June 16th, the location changes to the Hallandale Beach Library. An afternoon Story Slam Storytelling Contest will be held from 2 to 4PM in which seven pre-qualified storytellers will compete for glory and prizes before professional judges. The fun continues with authentic Caribbean food trucks and street vendors, the Bahamas Junkanoo Shakers, Resurrection Steel Drum Band and DJ Johnnie Powell.

The event is co-sponsored by Broward County Libraries and the City of Hallandale Beach. Additional sponsorship and support is provided by World and Eye Arts Center, West Elm, The Diplomat Beach Resort and Friends of Hallandale Beach Library.
