Community Foundation of Broward, The Jewish Community Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Broward County, and United Way of Broward County are hosting the 22nd Annual Joint Tax & Estate Planning Seminar to provide in-depth best practices to local tax and estate professionals. The Annual Joint Tax & Estate Planning Seminar will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023, for the first time at First Baptist Fort Lauderdale from 7:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

With the theme, Planning for an Uncertain Future, topics will address Current Developments, Proposed Legislation, Will Generous Estate & Gift Exemptions Sunset in 2026, and How do these Issues Impact Your Client’s Income, Estate and Charitable Plans. The seminar is a vital educational forum for attorneys, certified public accountants, investment consultants, financial advisors, and business professionals throughout Broward County.

The Joint Tax Seminar will build on a tradition of a cutting-edge presentation by a nationally recognized speaker, superior educational experience and prime networking opportunities. This year’s featured guest speaker is Beth Shapiro Kaufman, Partner and National Chair of Private Client Services at Lowenstein Sandler. Kaufman’s keynote will discuss Recent and Expected Regulatory Guidance, Legislative Proposals, and Planning for Uncertainty in the Tax Laws. She will draw upon her experience serving in the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Tax Policy— first, as Attorney Advisor, and then as Associate Tax Legislative Counsel—where she had principal responsibility for all tax policy matters affecting trusts and estates.

Kaufman previously held the position of primary Treasury representative involved in legislative and regulatory developments affecting estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax, as well as the income taxation of trusts and estates. Beth is a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Georgetown University Law Center, where she teaches LLM-level classes on the Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax. She formerly clerked for Chief Judge Spottswood W. Robinson, III of the U.S. Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Circuit. Kaufman has also been awarded multiple accolades such as The Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, The Legal 500, and Top 50 Women in Washington, D.C.

More than 400 legal and financial professionals are expected to attend the seminar which is recognized as South Florida’s premier Tax and Estate Planning Event. The Joint Tax Seminar will begin with a light breakfast and will be followed by the seminar.
