United Way of Broward County, in collaboration with the Broward Behavioral Health Coalition, is partnering with Mujeres Latinas and the Jewish Federation, to present “Stronger Together: Broward’s Latin Community Combats Antisemitism,” a first-of-its-kind forum focusing on how Broward County’s Latin community stands strong against antisemitism. This event is taking place on Thursday, October 12th at 6pm at the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation in Fort Lauderdale.
During the event, Johanna Vega Barnett, Chair of Mujeres Latinas Broward and Hispanic-Jewish Leader, will facilitate a thought-provoking discussion with a panel of distinguished guests, each shedding light on crucial aspects of the fight against antisemitism.
The panelists will include:
- Liat Altman, Regional Director of Latin American Affairs at the Anti-Defamation League, will lead an Antisemitism 101 session, defining what it is for those who might not be familiar with antisemitism and describe how it manifests in communities here and across the nation.
- Deputy Consul General Mike Driquez will explore the confluence of anti-Israel bias and antisemitism, offering insights that resonate even with those unfamiliar with these complex topics.
- Michael Teichberg will unveil findings from the AJC State of Antisemitism in America report, combining macro-level analysis with micro-level data to give a comprehensive view.
- Maria Hernández, LCSW, Chief Program Officer, United Way of Broward County, will share the rich history of collaboration between the Latin and Jewish communities in Broward County.
