No need to shop around for an evening of musical nostalgia. Ain’t no mountain high enough to keep that classic Motown sound out of Dillard High School and the Sandrell Rivers Theater on April 14 and 30 respectively. The concert lasts an hour, but you’ll want to party all night long.

On April 7, FGO special guest artists team with student band members from Dillard High School’s Contemporary Music Program for a night of Motown favorites. The program repeats with pianist Jared Peroune on April 30 at the historic Sandrell Rivers Theater.

Berry Gordy, Jr. founded the iconic Motown Records in 1959, quickly signing acts like Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, the Supremes, the Marvelettes, Martha and the Vandellas, the Temptations, and so many more. Topping the chart with hit after hit, it became one of the most successful independent record companies and Black-owned businesses in the world. It was also one of the first to employ a multi-racial staff, with a mission of producing a universal sound. “I wanted songs for the whites, blacks, the Jews, Gentiles… I wanted everybody to enjoy my music,” Gordy famously said.

The Motown concert takes place on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 7:30pm at the Sandrell Rivers Theater in Miami, and Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 7:30pm at Dillard High School Center for the Arts in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets are $25 general admission and available HERE.
