Moshe is an eighteen-year-old Hasidic Jew, who after the recent death of his father is given to managing the family’s farm by himself with his wife. The farm is a respectable provider of Kosher milk products to the Jewish community of Montreal, and as such, regular visits are given from Kosher inspectors to make sure it is up to the standards. The Kosher inspector discovers a strange incident: The cows have started to produce blood instead of milk. Panicked they reach out to the Head Rabbi who rules that the event is a result of divine intervention, and thinks the cows need to be sent away. Akiva is afraid that the bleeding might be a symptom of a larger epidemic and decides to challenge the Rebbe’s decision. The debate between them quickly escalates beyond the question of the farm to the future of the Jewish community, the possible implications of the event, and the personal past of each of them. When Akiva is forced to choose between his faith and his logic he comes to the shocking conclusion.
