Reawakening the Gods: Representations of Classical Mythology in Italian Renaissance Art

During the second half of the 15th century, Italian Renaissance artists moved beyond stylistic imitation of Greco-Roman Antiquity to embrace the depiction of mythological themes and deities, which they incorporated into iconic works of the Italian Renaissance. During this live Zoom talk, art historian Rocky Ruggiero will discuss works by artists such as Botticelli, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Caravaggio and Bernini. NSU Art Museum Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater will add commentary on the persistence of myth in modern and contemporary art.
