Broward County Library presents a free Facebook Live screening of the award-winning short film “Being” with a panel discussion from 5:30 to 7PM on Wednesday, July 1st. This virtual event is in collaboration with the African American Research Library & Cultural Center (AARLCC), and is a part of Broward County Library’s Stand Up Speak Out series.

The film recounts a traumatic encounter between the police and a young Black man on his way back to his college campus. The film examines the profound impact of that experience on the protagonist. A panel discussion will follow with the film’s writer, Darius V. Daughtry, and its director, Emmy Award-winner Cathleen Dean and other esteemed panelists.

“Stand Up, Speak Out: Social Justice Conversations at Broward County Libraries” is intended to provide historical context to the ongoing national conversation related to injustices that disproportionately affect Black and Latino communities.
