Miami City Ballet closes its season with the first return of one of its most extraordinary productions, the reimagining of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, George Balanchine’s cherished full-length ballet based on Shakespeare’s timeless tale of love and magic, reality and illusion. The audience is transported to the ocean floor – a perspective that’s uniquely Floridian – through the creative collaboration of two internationally acclaimed artists: Michele Oka Doner, with her ravishing costumes and sets, and Academy Award-winner Tarell Alvin McCraney’s dramatic direction. The ballet features live Mendelssohn music (including the immortal “Wedding March”), 24 children, six vocalists and the breathtaking Miami City Ballet dancers.
