FLIFF’s decision to honor Bob Graham specifically relates to his work as the 38th Governor of Florida.
There are so many reasons to honor Senator Bob Graham…
Co-Chaired the Congressional Investigation of the September 11attacks. In 2016, wrote an op-ed in the NYT calling for the public release of more documents relating to the attacks.
Was the primary writer of the portions of the Patriot Act that dealt with improving intelligence and intelligence sharing.
Voted against the Iraq War.
Congressional leaders appointed Graham to chair the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism.
Selected by President Obama to lead the Investigation into the BP Oil Spill.
Senior Research Fellow, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University.
The Bob Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida opened in 2007
Graham visited Cuba as part of a group sponsored by the Council on Foreign Relations In order to investigate Cuban plans for offshore oil-drilling.
And many others as Senator and Statesman.
During his tenure as Governor, Florida rose from obscurity in the film world to become the third leading State, behind only California and New York, in film production. The economy boomed as film companies invested billions to film in the Sunshine State. This led to Florida Trend Magazine, naming FILM as one of the Five Industries to Lead Florida into the New Millennium. Governor Graham created the Florida Film Commission (appointing Broward’s own Frank Loconto and Bill Grefe, along with Aventura’s Tom Dowd and industry leaders from Disney and Universal).
