Broward College Village Square will host the first Take Out Tuesday event of its 2016-2017 Village Square series of non-partisan debates featuring guest speakers discussing their views on various issues facing the community. This debate will focus on the topic “My Big Fat Gay Marriage: Finding a Middle Ground with Religious Conservatives.”

The goal of Take Out Tuesday events is to hold public forums to better educate the public on divisive issues. This discussion will be a spirited, but fact-based, civil debate about bridging the gap between religious conservatives and the LGBTQ community in South Florida.

The debate will be moderated by Howard Simon, Executive Director at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Florida. The ACLU of Florida works to keep the spirit of the Bill of Rights alive and protect those individual rights most people take for granted.

Panelists include:

Nadine Smith- Co-Founder & CEO of Equality Florida, the state’s largest organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Dr. Abdul Hamid Samra- Imam and Director of Religious Services at MCA’s Islamic Center of Greater Miami, one of the oldest and the largest Islamic centers of South Florida.

Rabbi Edwin Farber- Rabbi Emeritus at Beth Torah Benny Rok. Beth Torah is the spiritual sanctuary for Conservative Jewish values in Greater Miami.

The event is free to attend, and guests are encouraged to bring their own take-out dinners. Space is limited, so advanced registration is encouraged. Official partners of the Village Square are the Broward League of Cities and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance.
