Riverwalk Mutts and Martinis Yappy Hour

Riverwalk Trust hosts the first annual Riverwalk Mutts and Martinis Yappy Hour, Fort Lauderdale’s largest outdoor, pet-friendly cocktail hour, on Sept. 19, 2008, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The goal of the event is to bring together the Downtown community and their favorite four-legged friends for a night of celebration and networking while raising funds for the Riverwalk Trust. The event will be held at Briny Irish Pub on the Riverwalk along the historic New River.
On this special evening along Fort Lauderdale’s Riverwalk, a $20 donation ($15 prepay online) gives attendees two complimentary drinks, appetizers, live music, raffles, prizes and lots of fun activities for their pets. Dog adoptions will be available courtesy of the Humane Society of Broward County.
This is the first Riverwalk Mutts and Martinis Yappy Hour, but it will be very similar to Riverwalk Get Downtown. Now in its tenth year, Riverwalk Get Downtown currently draws approximately 1,500 professionals and residents from the Downtown and beyond.

Riverwalk Trust serves as the catalyst in building and nurturing Riverwalk as a vibrant community connected by the New River. Riverwalk Trust accomplishes this mission through advocacy on behalf of the Riverwalk Park, communication through its Website and Go Riverwalk magazine, its diverse offerings of events and its membership activities. Riverwalk Trust is currently pursuing projects to enhance and protect the integrity of the Riverwalk community, such as design guidelines for thoughtful development, funding for capital improvements and park enhancements, park programming and sustainability, management and final completion. It is our goal to create a public space in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, where the many functions of community life can take place, where people feel ownership and connectedness and where they perceive their riverfront park as true common ground. Riverwalk Trust Named Small Business of the Year in the Non-Profit Category by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce
The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce recently honored Riverwalk Trust with the Small Business of the Year award in the non-profit category. Founded in 1988 and entering its 20th year of service to the community, Riverwalk Trust employs three full-time and one part-time employee and manages a budget approaching half a million dollars. In the last 10 years, we have grown our total net assets by 150 percent and our annual revenues almost 85 percent. With a mission of serving as a catalyst in building and nurturing a vibrant community in Downtown Fort Lauderdale connected by the Riverwalk Park, our key activities include advocacy on behalf of the Riverwalk Park, membership, events, marketing and communication. One of the greatest commitments that the Riverwalk Trust has made to the local community has been the Go Riverwalk magazine, distributed at no charge to the greater Fort Lauderdale area each month. Typically this kind of undertaking is left to for-profit entities. Each month, the Riverwalk Trust brings coverage of arts, entertainment, events, people and the local lifestyle to the community, fulfilling our mission of creating vibrancy in the city in which we live, work and play. The governing structure of the Riverwalk Trust has also led to continued growth of the organization. The Riverwalk Trust has an Executive Board that was designed to oversee the mission of the organization with committee chairs sitting on the Executive Board. Since we have board meetings every other month, most of our work is done outside of the boardroom, which has led to an assembly of strong, self starting leaders within the organization to lead certain initiatives. Past presidents of the organization continue to work with the Executive Board and help chair key special projects. This award would not have been possible without the tremendous support with which we are blessed from the board, volunteers, staff, members, partners and sponsors. Thank you!

We couldn't survive without generous support from our board of directors and our surrounding community partners! Thank you to Mimi Haley Meister of Charity Dynamics for her expert assistance in executing our Third Annual Charity Golf Tournament and providing non-profit coaching in addition.
